Mike in Devon

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Mike has started his tour of the U. K. in Devon. Firstly he went to Slapton
Sands on the South coast. There is a Sherman amphibious tank as a memorial to
946 American servicemen who lost their lives in Operation Tiger which was a
training exercise for the Normandy landings. 749 lost their lives on the night
of 28th April 1944 when they came under attack from German E boats.
Mike then continued on to Dartmouth, home of the Britannia Royal Naval
College where all officers of the Royal Navy and some foreign service naval
officers all train. Mike tried to gain a place there but was rejected on
nationality and he failed the eyesight test!!
Finally Mike returned to Salcombe where he was greeted by the members of  the
Royal National Lifeboat Institute lifeboat “The Baltic Exchange III”. They
now proudly have a sticker of Mike in the wheelhouse.
Mikes journey continues and we will keep you all updated on his  whereabouts.

Hello World!

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

Mike is headed out to see the world! Mike has been recreated in a series of hand made “mini-Mike’s” that will be traveling the world. Each of these hand made Mike’s are being passed around from person to person, traveler to traveler, hoping to see the world by plane, train, boat, bicycle, shoe leather express and any other imaginable mode of transportation - except maybe ambulance. Mike will be taking about a one year sabbatical, seeing the sights of many foreign nations, from the jungles of Africa to the highest mountain peaks, Mike is looking for adventure. Mike will be back to Fruita in time for his own festival, though.Mike’s travels will be recorded here in this blog. Mike’s numbers one through ten can be found in the sidebar under categories.
